| UPDATE 5/14/10 - HI - COCO - here. Did you know that this is a 'lotsa' house - lotsa love, car rides, tummy pets, treats and now that the weather is warm - lotsa time spent sunning in our great sunroom. I even have my own overstuffed chaise lounge. If you get too hot, you just jump off and lay on the cool tile floor until you want to sun again. We get to go every so often to Dad's sister's farm - she now has five rescued dogs and I get to play outside in her large fenced yard with the two Goldens. They are great ball catchers.
Mom is very good to me BUT I'm really a Daddy's girl. Really love this guy and we have fun when we go each week to Bonnie's for our obedience lesson. Unfortunately Dad had a death in the family and had to go away for awhile (Mom was here for me however)- then when he returned - it seemed he had to have surgery on his shoulder - but now we have resumed our lessons. When each lesson is over, I get to play in Bonnie's yard with her German Shepherd and do we ever run around. Dad likes to see me enjoy myself. Mom, Dad and all the rest of the family are meeting up in NC to go on vacation this summer but I also get to go on vacation. I'm going to stay with Bonnie for a week. I can't wait!! But Mom says that I should just wait and not to worry - this winter is going to be even better as we will be going to Florida and I won't have to put up with the cold like last winter -- I am definitely not a cold weather doggie. Life here is great and thank you again for my loving new parents. UPDATE 2/14/10 Hello - COCO here. I'm giving Mom a break because it is Valentine's Day. What a great three months it has been. I've finally learned that I go to the front door to go out to 'pee'. No accidents now for more than a month! It was a little confusing at first as there is a front door, garage door and a sliding door to the sunroom plus then the sliding door from the sunroom to the outside. However, I love bedtime the most. First it's out to pee around 10 - then I get three small Milkbone biscuit snacks (I was gagging and throwing up a little bit in the morning before breakfast) and the trainer said that some dogs do that when their stomach gets too empty at night and to try a small snack right before bed...it works!!! Then my favorite snuggly blanket is put in the center of the king-sized bed and all three of us go to sleep until morning. I like to go for car rides now as I always come back to the same house. When I go with Dad, there are usually goodies for me from places that we go to. The house always smells so good as Mom is always cooking or baking for someone she calls her son, who comes to visit and pick up his food. He also gives great pets. My obedience training had to take a break as we had a death in the immediate family and Dad had to go away for a while. Things are back on track now and thank you for letting me be so loved, spoiled, petted and tummy rubbed in my forever home. UPDATE 1/14/10 - Coco has settled in nicely. Since both my husband and I are retired, we are home most of the day which Coco loves. She wants her family together and she and my husband are joined at the hip...she is much more his girl than mine. In the beginning, as a city dog, she was a bit hesitant about going in the car. I think she thought she was going to yet another home with different people. Once she realized that if she did go in the car, she still came back to the same home and family, she started to enjoy her little trips around town. We are still having a little trouble with peeing in the house, but since we are on a schedule - it has been approx. ten days since the last incident. She is still food driven but now sits in front of the refrigerator instead of trying to get things off the shelf. She does know time - especially when it is time for her to eat her breakfast and dinner and does she let you know that she KNOWS!! She started her first obedience training on Friday and really likes it. She is getting private lessons and already has learned to sit and STAY while you prepare her food and put it down for her. She has such a wonderful disposition and just loves everyone she meets. However, she is a fair weather girl - doesn't like the cold - and gets the 'business' done as quickly as possible to get back to the couch. UPDATE 12/13/09 - To say Coco has adapted well is putting it mildly. And yes Sue Page, she sleeps with us each night - right in the middle of the king sized bed and she has learned that she cannot walk on you. She loves company - especially when my daughter in law comes with her grandson. Everyone she meets on her walks with my husband - we live on a country road and most of the neighbors walk each day - she has won their hearts. She enjoys her new toys and her treats for good behavior. She loves sitting in the kitchen while you are preparing her breakfast and dinner and sits until you tell her it is "OK". She took a trip to our vets and he declared her to be in excellent health. She was microchipped there and also recd her supply of flea and tick and heartworm meds. In addition she has gained more than 8 lbs since arriving here. She still doesn't understand the concept of the deer coming through our property but she is not getting quite as excited about them any more. All to say for now and may everyone have Happy Holidays. 11/14/09 - I was adopted today! 11/11/09 - Coco had a follow-up visit with the vet today to check out her eyes. At first, they thought she had eye ulcers and were worried that they may be the chronic eye ulcers common to boxers. They'd done a dye test and a tear production test and everything was normal. She's not winking, squinting or rubbing at her eyes. So, we tried gel antibiotics for a week to see what happened. Now Dr. H has checked her out again and diagnosed her with some scaring, not ulcers. Her corneas have no actual abrasions. They're completely fine. He said her eyes will be "hazy" from now on, but there is no interference with her sight. (although I could have told him there is no problem with her sight... she can see a treat from a MILE away!) They won't get better or worse, they just are what they are... 11/6/09 - Let me tell you about little Miss Coco. She is a quiet girl who even tiptoes, so you don't realize she's there. She LOVES to be with people, and has zero concerns about "personal space"; she just thinks it should all be shared! She is so sweet and just looks at you with a quizzical tilt to her head and hopes there'll be food involved. She'd rather play with me than my goofy lab, but she's just starting to learn that HE boxes, I don't! (I've put "no" to kids under 4 because she DOES like to box with people and she's got some strong feet. Once she's learned not to do that, kids shouldn't be a problem) Today was a breakthrough and they chased each other around the yard and wrestled in the living room! She also started some interest in toys today. Right now, she's got a rope toy and is having a ball whapping herself in the face with it until it sails across the room. Then she looks at me with a stunned expression as if to say "Hey! I didn't know this was SO FUN!" and pounces on it again. She's learned there's a seat for her on the couch (so long as its not on my chest) and very gently sneaks up, one paw at a time. She's really good on a leash and stays right behind your heel. She even does that when we're walking without a leash outside. She's had some training in there somewhere. I'll explore it more as she relaxes. She was spayed on Tuesday and she's ready to go. She was brought up to date on her shots before she came up here and treated for any parasites she may have picked up in her month of outdoor living. She is definitely one of the best tempered fosters I've had. She is absolutely everything a family could hope for in a dog. I hope her new home finds her fast! She's earned it! 11/3/09 - Um, hello. My name is Coco and I'm a little unclear what's going on here. You see, 8 days ago, I was living in a city people always call Philly. I lived outside behind a house and my owners moved away. They left me and the cat there and came back to feed us every night. Then one day, my owner brought me to meet this lady who took me to an office where they pet me and made funny noises at me... told me "how pretty" and "what a sweet girl" I am. They were nice and I slept in a soft warm place...ahhhhhh. Then this other lady came and got me and brought me to her house. There was another girl there named Shena and she looked JUST LIKE ME! Well, this lady and her son did something kinda wierd and dressed us up in costumes... but that was ok, because we got to walk around the neighborhood with them. Since I'm a city girl, I know all about watching out for traffic and bad guys in the dark. Can you believe yet another lady came and had us get in her car!?!?!? She said "get in" and I had no idea what she meant! I'm a CITY GIRL... cars?? Then we went on a really long drive and it was dark when we got here. I think she wanted me to lay down on the trip, but I didn't know what to do, so I tried to move as little as possible. Shena seemed to know what was going on in this thing, so I followed her lead after a couple hours. The lady dropped Shena off at another house and took me to a place she called "home". She showed me around and I sniffed at stuff. She showed me a box with what she calls "toys", but I have no idea what those are, so I ignored her. Then she tricked me! She threw a treat in this wire thing and shut the door! She left for a little while and came back with thiese two boy dogs. I couldn't wait to meet them! I danced and barked and jumped, even though it was really late and I was really tired! We did a little exploring outside, but it was dark and just too quiet, so I just wanted to go back inside. Besides, its COLD in this place!! It wasn't this cold in Philly! PLUS, its so quiet here!! It just ain't right! Not one siren or car horn?!?!? Yesterday in the light I could explore the back yard better! There are all these trees and the leaves crunch under my feet. Strange! The big black goofdog wants to jump and run all the time, but sometimes, I just can't be bothered. Sometimes, I'll play along with him for a little while, but only if I can still see the lady. If she goes where I can't see her, I run back for the house until I can. She was sitting on this long thing last night and patted the seat next to her. I wasn't sure what she was asking me to do, but I put my paws up on it and WHOA!! it was so soft! I snuck my back paws up on it and curled up a tight little ball to snooze (Maybe, if I was really little, no one would see me and tell me to move). Then, she went into another room and layed down on this high thing. She patted next to her again and, since I knew that meant to get up on it, I jumped. OH MY DOG! Talk about soft!!!! I wanted to lay everywhere at once! She covered herself with something and then she kept saying "Hey! Quite stepping on me!" All I knew is I wanted to be all over it... but she seemed happier when I didn't lay on the lumpy parts, so I curled up and fell asleep. I felt guilty in the middle of the night and snuck off the bed while the lady was sleeping. I didn't go far, though, because I hate going where I can't see her. She took me to a place this morning where I met some nice people. They let me take a long nap and spend the day with them. My backside is a little sore and I'm kinda spacy, but I'm back home with the lady and I'll go to sleep in a bit. She tells me a family is going to find me after I write this and I'll only have to go one more place before I get to stay there. She says I won't get left alone or outside all the time. She says I'll be warm and healthy. She says there will be people to love me and pet me and remind me how pretty I am. She says this will be my home for forever. I gotta tell you, I can't even imagine it... |
