| UPDATE 5/29/09 - Dasher- Now named Bailey- He is doing great- weighing in at 52lbs - he is 6 months now- he is all muscle- hes started training and is doing ok- he is also getting neutered very soon, because he is a horny boy-- all is well--- UPDATE 3/1/09 -Dashers new Name is Bailey... He has adjusted great to his new family.. The first few days he was a little nervous, but now is comfortable in his new home...We took Bailey for his second set of shots and for a vet check-- He is in normal health for his age..He will start training soon, but has already learned sit, paw, speak and is house trained--He sits by the door when he has to go out and speaks- He really is a curious boy- always looking to get into anything... he tipping the scales at 22lbs, and is getting better looking everyday.... 2/1/09 - Dasher has been adopted! NOTE ** Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home wheresomeone is home often, such as retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parents, etc. 12/30/08 - The Reindeer Gang turned six weeks old yesterday :) and so, it was time for their first set of shots. First we had to figure out how to transport them to the vet-between Liz and I, we only had a Camry available, no SUV lol soooooo with approximately 65+ pounds of puppies to move, we had our hands full, literally :)) We managed, using a small crate, a small vari-kennel and Aunt Dee's arms :)))) The babies were soooooo scared, they literally shook the carriers, but they made it through their ordeal with flying colors and got clean bills of health and their first set of puppy shots. I'm not sure how Aunt Liz is feeling this morning-she carried a crate full of babies from the car! and her back may be suffering a bit today. I am not sure just HOW she managed to do that-a HUGE thank you to Aunt Liz for all of her help-I could not have done any of this without her-from start to finish!! Here is the latest weigh-in: Cupid 7lbs 6oz Vixen 7lbs 5oz Prancer 8lbs 7oz Dasher 8lbs 5oz Dancer 7lbs 12oz Comet 8lbs 8oz Donner 8lbs 6oz and the big guy Blitzen 9lbs 4oz These are WONDERFUL puppies who are already responding to a "shhhhh" or a "no" and even, occasionally, when I say "come, come, come". They are getting so much from their mom who continues to be a wonderful mother, instructing her brood in just how to be dogs-and how to behave appropriately in the world. She monitors them and intervenes when it is necessary, letting them know when they are getting too rough with one another. It's really amazing to watch her school these babies and how quickly they learn-and they look to her for guidance. You can watch them watching HER and reading her signals. I remain totally fascinated by it all. Dogs are truly amazing creatures. 12/22/08 - I got to go visit and play with the Reindeer Gang today... OMG theya are like little doggies now. sweet little baby dogs. The individual personalities are coming through. I'd call them from one end of the whelping box...... calling PUP, pup, pup, pup, pup. They come running and drape their paws over one section... looking for the attention......ADORABLE :) All just so sweet........... I got to pet everyone, hold a few, smooch a few. I got my share of puppy breath for sure. They are happy and healthy babies.. Their coats feel like a million bucks :)) Liz 12/13/08 - It was time for the pups to have their second scheduled worming, so we had to do a weigh-in and here are the results lol These little guys really are growing like weeds. Dasher: 6lbs 9oz Dancer 6lbs 9oz Prancer 6lbs 14oz Vixen 6lbs 10oz Comet 6lbs 11oz Cupid 6lbs even Donner 7lbs even and the big guy Blitzen 7lbs 6oz So they have all gained in the neighborhood of 4 pounds in two weeks :)) They are all healthy, happy babies. They are really playing now, jawing with one another and playing tug with the toys. They drag things around the box and roll around with one another all over the place. They all think that they are chew toys and chew on each other's ears and tails and feet. They still snuggle all up in a puppie pile to sleep and make the darned cutest cooing noises while they are sleeping. Bahama is still the best mom and is now schooling her babies on appropriate play skills lol 11/29/08 - Today was puppy weigh-in :)) They have to be wormed tomorrow and it's done by weight-sooooooo, I weighed them. Here's how they top the scale, from littlest to biggest: Cupid (girl) is 2 lbs 4 oz Dasher (boy) 2 lbs 8oz Vixen (girl) 2lbs 9oz Dancer and Donder (boys) 2lbs 11oz Comet (boy) 2lbs 13oz Prancer (girl) 2lbs 14oz and last but certainly not least lol is Blitzen (boy) who weighs in at a hefty 3lbs 6oz lol This boy does NOT miss a meal :)) If mom gets too far away, he screams and hollers and wonders around trying to find her, stopping along the way to suck on a siblings ear or foot or tail or whatever body part he happens to come across in search of the real thing! He was the first born and came into the world exercising his lungs and ready for food! He hasn't stopped since :))) What a cutie pie he is! They are just so cute-Blitzen's ears are opening and Dasher's eyes are about 1/3 of the way open-just a bit from the inner corners out-they should open up all the way in another day I bet. The others won't be far behind. They are beginning to test their legs and get up and wobble a bit-one or two are actually taking a couple of faltering steps. They will be 14 days old tomorrow and they used to all fit nicely in a row on mom for meals-now it's a true feeding frenzy, jockeying for the best seat in the house. Only 4 can comfortably fit without a hassle and when Blitzen joins the crowd, it's every man (or puppy lol) for him or herself!! Mama continues to be the best mom and the sweetest creature EVER! She takes very good care of her babies and is really good at it! I guess that comes, unfortunately, from experience. This little girl wins the hearts of everyone who meets her! I wish you could all come and see them, they are truly wonderful little babies. 11/23/08 - Bahama Mama is the boxer/terrier mix Mother of these 5 boys and 3 girls that were born 11/16/08. They really are very pretty puppies :)) And they HAVE doubled in size-they eat every hour, I swear! There isn't a skinny one in the bunch I am happy to report lol I LOVE chubby babies :)))) And Mama, well Mama has got to be the best Mama dog ever! She is just the BOMB!! They really do look like bully of some sort-even Ryan commented on how boxery their muzzles are right now-and they're full of wrinkles lol But all they really need is their momma's temperament and they will be the best pups ever! I had a friend stop in to see them today and Mama was so good about it-she watches and she's cautious but she seems to trust and know that no one is going to hurt her babies-such a wonderful dog!!! Individual pictures as soon as their foster Mom gets a chance. Their tails and dew claws were done already. Better get those applications in fast as they will not be available long! They will be able to go home the weekend of 1/11/09. |
