| UPDATE 3/1/09 - Jake is doing great. He greats us with a lot of kisses in the
morning and when we come home from work and school. He is wonderful with our two girls ages 6 and three. Megan our three year old has developed a special bond with him and they regulary take afternoon naps together. He is the star of his obedience classes and is loved by everyone that he meets. Thanks for matching us up with him, we couldn't imagine our family without him. 1/09 - Jake has been adopted! 12/26/08 - OMG, this is an awesome dog!! Jake plays so nicely with my kids... he has never once jumped on them. He seldom jumps on anyone, but when he does, it's very gently... more like a slow climb rather than a jump. For Christmas, my son got one of those remote controlled helicopters. Well, I don't think I need to tell you what Jake thought of it...LOL. He had a great time chasing that thing all over the place. Now mind you, my kids have toys all over the place, and he pretty much leaves everything alone. Once in a while, he'll grab a doll or something, but is very quick to let it go if you tell him. Jake will play all day, or let you pet him all day. He is such an easy going boy. He does no counter surfing, and does not beg for food. My white boxer Rosco, sheds like crazy, but Jake sheds very little by comparison. He also has no eye boogies, and is a very neat eater thank God. I couldn't handle anymore slobber on my floor. Jake is very easy to train. He know sit, and walks very nicely on a leash. He gets a little excited when we start, but after a minute or two, stays right next to me with the leash slack. He may get distracted by a leaf and want to go to it, but just a little tug and a "slow down" and he's right back next to me. He's been outside off leash, and comes right back when you call him. I think he's too afraid of losing us to wander off, and stays close by. The only thing he really needs work on is housebreaking. He can hold it all night in his crate, and will go outside every time, but still will also go in the house. I'm sure a lot of it is stress. I think once he settles into a routine and is on a better diet, he will be a lot better. Right now, he's still pooping 6-7 times a day. I think I'm going to bring a stool sample in to the vet to check for worms. I think Jake is the perfect family dog, and anyone would be very lucky to have him in their life. 12/24/08 - I think Jake's age should be updated to about 9 months old. His feet are still too big for the rest of him. He only weighs about 45 pounds, and has a lot of filling out to do. Jake is very easy to train. He knows how to sit, and will do it before going in or out, and before coming out of his crate. We're working on waiting, and I haven't tried walking him on leash yet. He happily goes right into his crate when you tell him, though if you're not in the same room, he will bark. Once lights were out last night, he barked for about 5 minutes, then was quiet the rest of the night, except for 1 potty break. He must be very stressed, because he has pooped 7 times in 18 hours. Jake came to the shop with me today to get a bath. He behaved perfectly in the tub, and even willingly gave me his paws to cut his nails. He still has to learn to stay away from the other dogs, but showed no signs of aggression with them. Jake is a very sweet and lovable dog who is happy to lay at your feet or snuggle on the couch. If you like to give belly rubs, he is very accommodating, and he gives wonderful boxer kisses... not too sloppy. If your sitting down, he will come over and just rest his head in your lap. If he gets a good response, he'll put 1 paw up, and after a few minutes, the 2nd one will follow, but will get down and stay down if you tell him to. He has absolutely no food issues, and no toy guarding. He will drop anything for some lovin'. He is very gentle for a young boxer pup. He's great with my 3 yr old daughter, and my 6 yr old son can handle him with ease. I don't think this boy will be here long. 12/23/08 - Jake has arrived!! Jake is one happy guy! He is just full of wiggles, and even though he has a long tail, it can wag pretty fast! He greeted me with a hug, but was very gentle about it, and didn't jump on my kids at all. He is definitely too skinny, so I got some good food into him, and he was loving it. He shows absolutely no food aggression... as hungry as he was, if I came anywhere near him while he was eating, he immediately stopped to show me how well he can wiggle! He travels very well in the car. Even after hours traveling from Georgia, he quickly settled down in the back, and made no attempts to come up front. So far, he doesn't seem to want my dog Rosco anywhere near him when he's in the crate, so introductions will have to wait for a while. He's had a long journey, and was just neutered a few days ago, so he will need some time to settle down and de-stress. Right now, he's just relaxing on the floor next to me as I type. I'll bring him to the shop tomorrow to give him a much needed bath, and I'll see how he does with the dogs there. |
