| UPDATE 5/24/10 - Oscar has been a part of our family for about six months now. He has settled in beautifully and we just love him. He loves his nightly walk with his human sister and grandmother - he knows when it's time for that walk and will even help out by getting his leash ready - I really think he likes the soft-serve he gets after the walk the most!!!! He is definitely not a cold-weather boy - he loves sunning himself on these beautiful days we've been having - he has been a great addition for us and we are so happy to have him as part of our family. UPDATE 1/30/10 - Oscar has been with us for about two months now and we just love him. We started obedience training Jan 4 and have had 4 classes so far - he is really the star of the class as far as his listening and his manners; he knows sit, stay, leave it, take it - we are working on down. He still does not like being around other dogs and he does let them know, he even earned himself a "time-out" at our last class - since we don't have other pets he is very happy to be our one & only, and he is great with people. I am still walking him with the gentle leader as he just does much better walking with this. He has developed a growth on his lower lip which he will have removed & tested, we will hope it just a benign growth - the vet just wants to make sure. He is a good boy at the vet, just loves every person he meets. We are so happy to have Oscar as part of our family - it's almost hard to remember what it was like before he was here!!! UPDATE 12/24/09 - Well, we think Oscar is doing great!!! He is such a love and very friendly to all people. We had our evaluation for obedience training which will begin on 1/4. Oscar also had an evaluation for doggie daycare and he received a glowing report. We were a little afraid of the doggie daycare thing as he did not get along well with his dog cousin at first - the second meeting did go better and we are hoping with time that they will become friends - I think with the socialization at doggie daycare he will learn that playing with other dogs can be fun. I use the gentle leader while walking with him and he does very well with it (and so do I). He has been perfect in the house, does not take a thing that does not belong to him (he does seem very possessive of his toys) - he doesn't take anything off of the counter and has had the run of the house since the first week. He does think he is a lap dog, he loves to give kisses and cuddle - I don't think there could have been a bette r choice for us!!!! 11/22/09 - I was adopted today! 10/29/09 - "A quick update from the Riverview Boxer-Hostel...Oscar has a case of Giardia. He will start meds tomorrow. We are guessing that this is one reason that he has stayed so skinny. On another note, Oscar is doing so well with the Gentle Leader that we are able to walk as a complete pack--FM plus three fawn Boxers--quite a sight! More news soon..." 10/26/09 - Oscar had a quick visit to the vet today--where they LOVED him. They though he was cute as a button, and had a great personality. They thought he could put on a few pounds, but acknowledged that with his typical Boxer energy he might burn it all off He was a wonderful boy despite being poked with needles (and having his nails Dremeled). He is Heartworm free. SO...Oscar is now UTD and ready for his new home! 10/22/09 - Oscar is mellowing out more with every passing day. He's been here nearly a week! As you can from his photos, he does love the couch. He also loves a brisk walk. We are using a Gentle Leader because although he is little fellow he has a Boxer's strength. While he hated it the first day (like they all do), by today--just day three-- he is doing great and not fighting with it at all! Oscar may be petite ( I guess since he is a guy I should say "compact") compared to my giant Rocky (85 pounds) but he knows how to hold his own. Nobody here is pushing anybody else around. Oscar has already earned his way to full house privileges at night--since he doesn't misbehave at all. During the day he is crated, but that's just because I worry with three dogs in the house that a ruckus could start while I am gone, with injuries possible. So... better safe than sorry here at the Riverview. HE continues to have a good appetite, and we are hoping to put a few pounds on him. 10/19/09 - Oscar has settled in like he's always been a part of this family. He met Lucky last night, and all was well, and this morning he met Rocky. Again, all went well. Wagging nubs all around. This afternoon after work, all three of the guys have been hanging out together with us--at one point all three of them were laying near me in the computer room. He has a good appetite, and likes the backyard. He's a little vocal when he's crated, but settles right down. He does have a number of appropriate chew toys in it with him so he can occupy himself when he's not sleeping. And he sleeps through the night in the crate next to my bed. He seems to be a happy fellow who loves company. And he's so cute that I am sure that YOU would enjoy his company! 10/17/09 - Oscar has arrived at the Riverview Boxer-Hostel. He is a small but well-proportioned young male who could put on a couple of pounds. So far he has met my two through the baby gates and after a little while when he was scared, all I see are happy wagging nubs. Oscar was an owner surrender. He's another victim of the economy--they loved him and took care of him but there just wasn't enough money for them to do what they knew was right for him--that's why he'll be getting up to date on his shots soon--they had to make the choice between food and medicine, and food won for him. Oscar lived with a baby and a three year old, and another (small) dog--so we know he loves kids and other dogs. Even with his stress about this big change in his life, we've gotten lots of little Boxer kisses, and lots of nub wagging. He has already shown us that he loves attention--he's lying at my feet while I type--and let me rub his tummy. I am sure Oscar will fit right in here while he patiently waits for his forever home--and as cute as he is, I am sure he won't have to wait too long! |
