| UPDATE 2/3/09 - Tiger has adjusted nicely to our house and family. He was a bit
scared of Anthony at first but has since warmed up to him. Tiger absolutely loves our two children (Lawrence and Joey) and loves playing with them and their toys. Tiger loves to snuggle with us on the couch and has even attempted to sleep with us in bed at night. He always goes right back to his bed once we tell him "down". Tiger came to us with what we were told was a Grade 2 Heart Murmur. After two visits to two different Vets we have been informed that his heart murmur is a bit more serious. He has a Grade 3 heart murmur occuring in both the right and left side of his heart. We are in the process of having his cardiac work up so that he can be managed with heart medication. He will need to take this medication for the rest of his life. The Vet is hopeful that once he gets proper treatment, he will live a normal life. Obedience training will start soon. We need to recover a bit financially from all the Vet visits. Tiger came to us with some obedience training, but we want him to be the best behaved dog on the block!!! We truly enjoy Tiger and are so glad that we adopted him. He is truly a great dog and a wonderful addition to our family. 1/17/09 - Tiger has been adopted! 12/2/08 - It has been almost a month since "Big Tig" arrived and I'm so surprised that he is still here! He is a delight to have here and he is a great playmate for all of my dogs, so we are enjoying him hanging out here until his family takes him home. Tiger is a great dog, he walks very nicely on a leash. He is the best walker between the four dogs in the house and could walk for miles without slacking off. I was a little intimidated by his size and muscles initially, but he is just an overgrown baby! He likes to snuggle and give boxer kisses just the same. He is very playful and would do best paired with a dog of equal energy. I did discover what his first owner said of his "pee problem". He has had a couple accidents when excited. I suppose that it could have been avoided if I had let him outside prior to my company arriving. I think that this is an easily managed challenge and that he may even outgrow as he is a young dog. Tiger may also have a food allergy as I discovered that when I started to give him the Solid Gold Lamb that I feed my dogs as opposed to the Purina One Beef & Rice that he was eating, he started scratching his neck and ears. You may even notice the redness/blood in some of the pictures. That irritation has cleared up as I switched him back. I have to compare the food label to try to figure out what the allergen was. Tiger would make a fantastic addition to your home! 11/15/08 - Tiger is a big, handsome boxer. He came to rescue as an owner surrender. His family found him to be too active for them. He is a young & energetic dog. The family has four young children & another on the way. Additionally, he frequently hopped their 3 foot fence and has been struck by a vehicle one time already with little injury thankfully. An invisible fence was installed and was ineffective. His family decided it would be in Tiger's best interest to be re-homed to another family with more time and a taller fence. Tiger was described to me as excellent with the family's four children aged 13, 10, 8 and 4 years. He lived with a cat, however it was reported that they "didn't get along" as Tiger chased kitty around. Tiger is doing fantastic at his foster home getting along with all the dogs here (2 females & one male). He has wanted to do nothing else but have fun, running and playing. He gets along especially well with the younger female. Although he is neutered, he still pursues her as a love interest! He walks well on a correction collar and does not sniff & stop along the way. He is housetrained, however it was reported to me that he will have accidents when excited (i.e. when company arrives). So it was recommended that company acts casually when they arrive and perhaps Tiger is gated in a non-carpeted area initially. Tiger is a fantastic dog who would love a home with a big yard to run and play. He would do great with another equally active dog friend to burn off some of his energy. |
