UPDATE 1/31/10 - Gus has been awesome with us since day 1.  He's one of the biggest snuggle-bugs I've ever met...always making sure to devote equal cuddle time to both Richard and me!
He has also been a perfect gentleman with his new cockapoo sister, Chewie. For the most part, he fully accepts her status as the family's "Diva Princess".  One night during his first week at home, we watced as he tried to climb up onto the couch next to her.  He backed off immediately when she growled at him. We almost died laughing, though, when it became clear that he'd just decided to claim that same spot by coming into it from a different direction, which involved climbing over Richard! Chewie later claimed a spot on the chaise lounge that seems to be his favorite piece of furniture.  When he saw her there he just stretched out on the floor in front of it...what a good boy! Now that he's more comfortable at home, he's stolen a few toys from her on occassion...but they seem to play gently together - there's never been more than a little growling between them.
We're still working on getting him to understand that Chumlee (our kitty) needs to be afforded the same respect as Chewie, though.  He lunged at Chumlee early on, and our poor kitty has pretty much been in hiding ever since.  On the few times that he's brave enough to venture out of hiding, he's been quick to dart back under the bed if he hears Gus moving about.  Gus is still a bit too interested in Chumlee, so we're watching him like a hawk whenever Chumlee does venture out, and we're still keeping Gus on a "drag line" just in case!
We brought him to our trainer last week for an evaluation.  Our trainer firmly believes we'll be able to train him to respect Chumlee, so formal training begins tomorrow evening (Feb 1).  Please wish us all luck!

1/16/10 - Gus has been adopted!

1/10/10
- We picked up Gus from the shelter today where he was brought in as a stray in November.  Though the staff was thrilled Gus was on his way to a second chance they were all sad to say goodbye (we even saw a few tears).  We promised to be good to him and find him the best home ever.
He was a good little car rider and we had a nice walk around our neighborhood when we arrived home.  We brought our dog Maddie down for the last part of the walk and they did the usual sniff and bow and then walked quite nicely together.
Get your applications ready, this boy won't be here long.
