| UPDATE 11/15/11 - Jaxson has been with us for a year now! Time flies by so fast! He is an adorable sweetie and we are so blessed to have crossed paths with him. He and our white girl, Dove, get along great and love to play and snuggle! They really love each other so much! When Dove is on the couch, Jaxson will squeeze into a tiny space and lay on top of her and fall asleep instead of laying in the open space next to her. We will all be going away for Thanksgiving, and Jax and Dove will get to play with their 2 Great Dane cousins! Jaxson is a very healthy boy (with the exception of some allergies) and just saw our vet about a month ago. He was there for his routine appointment and was an angel. He has such a mild and gentle temperament and is the biggest (littlest) love bug! He is definitely on the smaller side for a male boxer, as he weighs in at about 55 pounds. We couldn't be happier or more in love with our boy :) UPDATE 2/3/11 - Jaxson completed his obedience class last Sunday. He passed with flying colors! He is a very smart boy. He did like to flirt with some of the females in class, and tried to engage in play with them during class. We did have to move a couple times since he was trying to get the girls to focus on him, but our instructor loved him regardless! :) He continues to do well at home, and he is just such a snuggle bug. He loves to jump right into our laps and curl up into his boxer ball. He and Dove are doing well together, and he also loves to snuggle with her and lay on her. We have been continuing with the Benadryl for his itchiness, which has been helping. He loves to play outside with Dove, although only for a few minutes since it is so cold and snowy. I can't wait to see him play outside when the weather warm up! He LOVES toys, and he plays often either by himself or with Dove. He is not a big chewer, but likes the plush toys to toss around in the air and of course t he tennis balls! All in all, he is such a love, and we adore him! There is certainly something very special about these rescue pups. UPDATE 12/10/10 - Jaxson is doing so wonderful! I can't believe we have had him only one month! He is doing so well, and has made himself right at home. We are absolutely in love with this guy! We begin our obedience class on Sunday, but the first one is only for the humans... so he will attend the next class. He is excellent with children, as he met our neighbors young kids (4 and 7) and was so gentle :) He is such a love bug, and absolutely LOVES to SNUGGLE! He snuggles with Eric and myself, and he absolutely loves our boxer girl Dove. He always lays on her, and they often nap together on the couch. He sleeps in bed with us every night with Dove, and even though he is a little guy, he really likes to sprawl out! I think he has started to gain a couple pounds. He is doing better with the crate... we actually bought one of the plastic airline crates for him and he seems to be better with that kind. We had to do the same thing when we adopted Dove. She hated the wire one also, but she is great in the plastic one. He is very food motivated and eager to please. He still scarfs his food, but I put a tennis ball in his bowl to get him to slow down a bit. Jaxson does have a bit of separation anxiety, but he is doing well regardless. He does seem to have allergies, but I've started some benadryl which appears to be working for now. I currently have both of the dogs on a whitefish recipe, so we'll see if we need to make any adjustments after a little while longer. That's about all for now... We are so thankful that we have this boy! UPDATE 11/19/10 - Jaxson is settling in wonderfuly in our home. We made the trip from Connecticut back to Buffalo, NY, and he has been getting along great with our other boxer girl, Dove. They love to snuggle on the couch and the bed of course, and run in our large fenced in yard. I did do a bit of shopping for Jaxson and Dove prior to picking him up, and he has loved playing with the toys. He LOVES tennis balls (I have yet to meet a boxer that doesn't), and plush toys with squeakers. He doesn't chew them, he just tosses them around and chases them. Jaxson saw our vet on Monday of this week. He needs to put on a few pounds and he still had a pesty ear infection in his right ear (continuing the drops), but all in all, he was doing great, healthy, etc. We did have him microchipped as well. Jaxson has been doing great with the adjustment and we are just working on the crate a bit more. One of us has been home each day this week to continue to practice intervals with him prior to getti ng back to our usual work routine. Dove is loving having us home all day! :) We are going for a short trip out of town for Thanksgiving (driving) and both dogs will be coming with us. Jaxson is a huge snuggle bug, and he has really taken to Eric (daddy's boy for sure). I am second best, and he snuggles with me on the couch as well, and he also loves to be near Dove. He really likes to lay on her, and she has been great with him. He did have a bath, and had no touble in the tub at all. He was a perfect boy! I have put in calls to two obedience schools and am just waiting to hear back so we can get him enrolled... he is such a sweet boy, but will certainly benefit from the basics (sit, down, stay, etc.). More to come in the following weeks :) 11/13/10 - Jaxson has been adopted! 10/30/10- Well Jaxson had his neuter on Friday and is doing really well today. He was thrilled to leave in the car. He is healing nicely, but did have to have some teeth extracted because they were badly infected...but this means he no longer has bad breath. He smells wonderful and boy did he gobble up his food this evening. While at the vet another small dog growled at him and he acted like a perfect gentleman and just looked at him as if to say "What was that for?" He continues to startle at times, but is doing remarkably better since he first came. We continue to work on the baby gates and he went into the crate very easily this evening. He did cuddle up on the couch with me this evening, but when I got up to answer the phone, the little stinker took my warm spot and the pillow. I think he is getting used to the lap of luxury here, but he would love his own home. 10/25/10-Jaxson has really impressed me today. He went to the vet for his updated shots and heartworm tests. Besides his crying in the waiting room, he let them really check him out. Apparently his bad breath is from tartar on his teeth which may improve with better food. He also has some very minor typical boxer gum overgrowth of his teeth, but don't worry this boy can eat. He is at a good weight according to the vet. He also has a yeast infection in his ear that will clear up in about a week. He plans to have his surgery later this week. Jaxson does appear to startle and want to run with loud noises(i.e. car backfires), but regular household noises with kids, etc. are fine. He does well with my toddler, but doesn't want to play with him just yet. With all his timidness, he has not shown any signs of aggression including food aggression. He has only played with a stuffed animal here so far, but absolutely LOVES to play with the resident dogs here.No timidness there. He will run and chase a ball in the yard, but more for the love of running than actually retrieving the ball. Jaxson would probably do better with older kids who can play in the yard with him. He also would do best with another playful dog in the house. Jaxson is still working on crate training, but he seemes to have a fear of baby gates as well. The good news is that I have left him out with the resident dog here and the house and dogs have been fine when I got back. No countersurfing or accidents in the house. He has settled down some since his arrival and has claimed a spot on the dog sofa. He is such a handsome boy that would love a playmate to wrestle with. Won't you consider taking him home to tire out your own dog? 10/24/10-Jaxson arrived here in CT on Saturday and is slowly settling in. He is pretty nervous right now, but wants to play with the other dogs here. He is a beautiful dark brindle with a soft coat.He still needs to see the vet for updates and will also need to be neutered. He is in great physical shape and LOVES to run in the fenced backyard. Will update more as his true personality shines. |
